* **Comment:** Ichiro Kojima (1924-1964), a photographer born in Aomori in 1923, left behind a record of the harsh landscapes of Tsugaru and Shimokita during his tragically short photographic career of only 10 years. The latter half of the photobook features extremely hard-edged works with almost no gradation, achieved through multiple printings. This was an unconventional approach to photographic expression at the time. Kojima, who ran a photo studio, intentionally used leftover hard-toned film.
