Antique San Ildefonso black on black Pottery (Signed Lidia R). The pot features a coiled snake on the rim of the jar, with no chips or cracks! The pot measures about 3-1/4" tall and about 4-1/2" in diameter at widest point. For more than 100 years, San Ildefonso has been the center of tradition and innovation. In 1918, Maria Martinez and her husband, Julian, discovered how to produce the traditional black-on-black pottery that is now famous. The pueblo is located twenty-two miles northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Its Feast Day is January 23rd honoring their patron saint: San Ildefonso
